This incredibly flavorful staple is excellent to add to tacos, enchiladas, nachos, etc. featuring a homemade taco seasoning! This recipe makes 6 servings (one serving = 100g or 4 oz of taco meat).

Ingredients

Meat
  • 1 lb. 99% lean ground turkey
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 3 tbsp brown sugar
Taco Seasoning
  • 3 tsp chili powder
  • 3 tsp ground cumin
  • 2 tsp ground paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, stir to combine all the taco seasoning ingredients.
  2. Spray a large skillet with cooking spray and set to medium heat.
  3. Add turkey and break up the meat for about 5 minutes, or until no pink is visible.
  4. Add the taco seasoning to the pan, then pour in the water and stir to combine.
  5. Reduce heat and simmer for about 3-4 more minutes, stirring occasionally, until most of the liquid has evaporated.
  6. Stir the apple cider vinegar and brown sugar into the skillet.
  7. Let simmer for another 3-4 minutes, then remove from heat.

Notes

Feel free to swap out the ground turkey for ground chicken, ground pork, or ground beef.
